 The 2010 Concert Season
2010 saw the Society returning to Brundall Memorial Hall 40 years after the last concert there! Strangely there’s no evidence that it didn’t go down well last time. The programme for the 1970 performance can be seen on the archive pages.
There was also a first visit to the St. Lawrence Arts Centre in South Walsham. This is a beautiful setting and the day of the concert added to it with some beautiful weather. The hall does offer an unusual acoustic which suited some of the choral pieces beautifully but otherwise demanded some quick adjustments to the balance of the choir. Some of the late leavers finished the visit watching the resident bats leaving from under the eaves.
There was also a return to Lowestoft Road Methodist Church in Gorleston - which is somewhere the Society always enjoys singing - and the end of season Summer Concert was back to the Priory Centre in Great Yarmouth with Strawberries and Cream in the interval an added bonus.
It would be true to say that audience numbers at some concerts were disappointing, although those that came enjoyed their experience. The Lowestoft Road performance was reviewed in glowing terms by the Yarmouth Mercury. The Summer Concert was well attended and provided an uplifting end to the season.
At the time of writing (September 2010) no concerts are booked for the new season, but the Society is exploring how to develop its remit to promote enjoyment of Gilbert & Sullivan’s wonderful works - and is looking towards a drive for new members.
